Octagon Asset Management Launches on Flint Wealth

  • Octagon investment funds will be available on Flint Wealth platform
  • All eight Octagon funds available with minimal initial investment required

Wellington, 18 May 2023 – Octagon Asset Management (Octagon), the investment management firm launched by Forsyth Barr in 2021, today announced that all eight of its funds will be available for New Zealanders to invest in via the Flint Wealth platform (Flint).

Retail investors in New Zealand will be able to invest in Octagon’s award-winning funds with minimal up-front investment, from as little as $50 invested.

Octagon Business Development Manager Matt Hardwick, says, “We are pleased to be able to offer our award-winning, actively managed funds to New Zealanders on the Flint platform. Octagon was established to help all investors grow their wealth in a simple and efficient manner. Partnering with Flint and making our funds accessible to meet growing investor demand is an important step for us as we grow the Octagon brand.”

Flint offers retail investors access to more than 100 managed funds across a range of asset classes and geographical locations. Flint Wealth launched the Flint online investment platform in 2022. It recently became the first online investing platform in New Zealand to be certified by the Responsible Investing Association of Australasia and has a range of sustainable, and impact investment funds available via the Flint App. 

The funds offered by Octagon are typical of those offered by an active manager and offer a diversity of options. Matt Hardwick says, “They could be viewed as building blocks from which a portfolio can be built, depending on your investment objectives and needs, or you could simply invest in one of Octagon’s multi-asset class Income, Balanced and Growth funds”.

Octagon Funds available on Flint;

  • New Zealand Equities Fund
    Managed by Octagon’s CIO Paul Robertshawe, the fund aims to achieve positive long-term returns by investing mostly in New Zealand shares, and can invest in Australian listed shares, where the company has meaningful operations in New Zealand.
  • Australian Equities Fund
    Managed by Octagon’s Head of Equities Jason Lindsay the fund aims to achieve positive long-term returns by investing mostly in Australian shares, and can invest in New Zealand listed shares, where the company has meaningful operations in Australia.
  • Global Equities Fund
    The Octagon Global Equities fund is a multi-manager fund with investment management by Intermede Partners (London) as well as local Global Equities specialist Te Ahumiarangi and Forsyth Barr’s own wealth management model global portfolio. The fund aims to achieve positive long-term returns by investing in international shares. 
  • Listed Property Fund
    Managed by Octagon’s Head of Equities Jason Lindsay the fund aims to achieve positive long-term returns by investing in listed financial products issued by entities whose principal business involves the owning or managing of property, property-like assets or real assets.
  • New Zealand Fixed Interest
    Managed by Octagon’s Head of Fixed Interest and ESG Craig Alexander, the fund aims to achieve positive long-term returns by investing in New Zealand fixed interest assets.
  • Income Fund
    A multi-asset fund, the Income fund aims to pay distributions, while maintaining the fund’s capital value over the long-term, by selecting a mix of cash, fixed interest, equity and property investments.
  • Balanced Fund
    A multi-asset fund, the Balanced fund aims to achieve positive long-term returns by selecting a mix of cash, fixed interest, equity and property investments.
  • Growth Fund
    A multi-asset fund, the Growth fund aims to achieve positive long-term returns by selecting a lesser exposure to cash and fixed interest investments and a greater exposure to equity and property investments.
